Waqqas Malik is a young entrepreneur who is changing lives with his sensational YouTube Channel, ‘Dear Sir’, which currently has more than 5.6 million subscribers.

When dedication meets creativity with a layer of lively presentation skills on top of it, you get an entrepreneur like Waqqas Malik. A highly skilled individual, Waqqas Malik is deeply passionate about problem-solving for all his students and guiding those who can’t afford the institutional coaching through physical centres. His famous YouTube channel, ‘Dear Sir’ is known for its success mantras and on-point content that addresses the needs of millions of students.

Through his personal mantra, ‘Where there is a problem, there is a concept’, Waqqas has charted a journey with world-record numbers with subscribership ready to touch the 6 million mark and a staggering viewership that goes in billions. A self-professed tech-lover, Waqqas likes to keep up with the trends of the time and use them ultimately for the betterment of his students.

As Waqqas and team get ready to take another big step towards helping out students with the best means possible, we put Waqqas Malik on record through this exclusive conversation:

Q 1: Tell us about yourself? Why did you decide to get into this line?

Ans: I did my graduation in Commerce from Delhi University, and now pursuing MBA in Marketing and Sales. I have always felt attracted towards technology that’s why despite the academic subjects I keep on learning programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript and now Python as well. Also, Digital Marketing, Search engine Optimisation, Online Brand Creation is something I am Good at. Technology flows like blood in my veins. It gives me the reason to live.

So many students don’t have coaching facilities or they can’t afford the fee. Their problems pushed me to think about my responsibility towards them. “The whole world is just one click away nowadays.” And that’s the reason why I stepped into this organisation. My Journey began much earlier than “Dear Sir”, I was in offline business for almost 5 years but my reach was limited at that time. I was aware of the fact that “Business without technology is as similar to killing the business”. I couldn’t resist myself to come online. God gifted me the Tech & Business knowledge so I decided to serve those students who are going through financial problems and can’t join coaching classes.

Initial few months were challenging and consistent improvements helped to catch eyeballs. We finally started to receive comments and appreciation especially from the students from villages. Then we set a National Record to achieve 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M, 5M subscribers in just 94, 120, 150, 175, 210 videos, respectively. No other Youtube Educational Channel has been able to match this feat in just a few videos. And the reason for this rapid rise is that we always focus on quality over quantity.

Q 2: What makes you different from your competition?

Ans: Our method of teaching is creative and innovative. We have developed a teaching technique which we call “Viewcall”. It works with visualisation of things and human psychology of remembering it. Our human brain remembers things in the form of images and it helps it to recall things easily. With this technique, we help the students to visualise the concept through real-life examples, animation and concept related jokes. Also, through our channel students learn the concept in less time because of creativity and to the point teaching.

Due to our innovative teaching style, we get lots of love from our students. Our “Tenses” video got more than 1.5 Crore of viewership which is a record view on any educational video. Our Maths Short Trick is famous around the globe, even we get viewership on our Maths Short Tricks video from outside India which shows the uniqueness and wide acceptance of our products.

Q 3: Tell us about your process a bit?

Ans: “Where there is a problem, there’s a concept” and for us “Concept is power”. This is our mantra. While creating any content, we dive into the mindset of students and put ourselves into their shoes so that we can teach in a way that they can understand, in just one go. Our multiple times reviewing video and on-time animation makes our videos smooth and easy to understand. We always get in touch with our students to identify their problems and demands, and as we are the servant of this beautiful nation, we always create what students ask. Students ask their queries and questions in the comment box as well and we reply to them with diligence.

Q 4: Given teaching on YouTube is a new form, what are the challenges of this medium?

Ans: Yes, it is a new form and in the case of youtube, motivating students to stay with educational videos is a bit challenging because of irrelevant content available on youtube. Nowadays, students get totally distracted due to the bundles of videos uploaded on the comparison between two video sharing platforms. And it leads them to nowhere. Our students have the potential to conquer the world but what [all] they require is direction. Youtube keeps suggesting them entertainment videos or videos that have no meaning in life, for example, “5 unusual places which you never saw.” These videos distract the students from their study, and getting back them on the path again becomes challenging sometimes.

Q 5: At such a young age, you have touched so many lives. How do you handle this admiration and fame?

Ans: We all are the servants of God and everyone in this world is serving in their own way. What is the good part in our case is our reach is big and people started to know us. Students sitting in villages, where there is no coaching and teacher, are now able to learn through our videos and that’s what I want in my life.

Fame is just another word for me, it matters to celebrities and I am not one. For me “LOVE” matters and yes I run after it.

Q 6: What is the next step for Waqqas Malik and Dear Sir?

Ans: Waqqas Malik’s aim is to knock each and every door in villages and cities and help students with learning and realizing their dreams. My team and I are working on a project which will be a life-changing product for every student. We are going to launch our Website where students can learn so many different subjects for free. Even premium courses won’t be expensive there and I promise even a poor student will be able to easily afford them. Now everything would be just one click away. It would be a gift from Team Dear Sir to our beloved students for being loyal to us and supporting us all this while.

Q 7: Lastly, do you have any message for your students as they reel under uncertain times due to COVID-19 pandemic?

In my childhood, I heard a saying that “Health is Wealth”. This is an uncertain time for everyone. The whole world is locked and people are suffering due to this pandemic. I just want to say, this is not the first time we are facing such things and yes we won in the past as well. Now, we need to be patient and follow all the prescribed guidelines by WHO and the Indian Govt. I hope this ends soon and our researchers find a cure.

And to the students, ‘Don’t worry about your study, we are consistently uploading videos of your classes and we will keep uploading it even if it takes the whole of our days and nights.

Stay safe and follow social distancing. Stay with Dear Sir.

Subscribe to Dear Sir and get started on your learning journey.
