Here, we put Mr Manjunatha B. on record through this conversation:
Q 1: What motivated you to start on this journey?
Ans: Basically, I am from a poor family. Due to the lack of proper guidance in the rural area and financial issues, I missed out the bus of my UPSC dreams. So I started teaching and sharing my knowledge. I was inspired by the proverb, “If you win you win if you lose you teach.”
Q 2: Why did you choose the medium of YouTube?
Ans: I chose YouTube because it’s the easiest way to reach out to the masses, and is also the least expensive.
Q 3: Though Karnataka is better placed than most Indian states in terms of education and literacy rate, what are some of the problems faced by students in rural areas?
Ans: In terms of quantity, you are right. But the quality of education, especially in the sector of competitive exam field, needs to improve more.
Q 4: How’s the response to your recently launched Sadhana app?
Ans: Its unimaginable. Within a day, it crossed 10k downloads and within 22 days it crossed 50k plus downloads. We made it for the test series. Over 20k students take tests on our app, weekly.
Q 5: You are a very active social worker yourself. What do you think is the role of social work in education?
Ans: I don’t think I’m that active. It is my family attitude. My father told me to dedicate at least 10% of my time to the society. I just follow his words. I think I’ve got more from society than I’ve given it back.
Q 6: There must be many success stories out there because of you? Can you tell us about some?
Ans: Sadhana has guided more than 5000 students through its offline operations since 2007. Here we have created many KAS officers, PSIs, FDAs, Professors, Teachers. And some of them have even joined Army, Police, and Railways. The number of selections may very well have crossed 20000+ as we haven’t fetched all the data of the outcomes from YouTube.
Q 7: Would we see Mr Manjunatha expand his operations to other Indian languages as well?
Ans: No, we don’t have any immediate plans as of yet. But perhaps in 1-2 years, through an English platform, we will start advancing Sadhana Academy in that direction.
Q 8: Lastly, what would you say to students all over India in these times of uncertainty due to COVID-19 pandemic?
Ans: My question is, ‘is this pandemic a boon or a bane?’…. It all depends on our mindset. I said this especially in the context of students. ‘Accept’, ‘Adjust’ & ‘Adopt’ to the new situation, and it all depends on the IQ and EQ of a person. It is an unavoidable situation. We should be ready to face it.
