With quality study material to help the students of over nine universities, including Rajasthan University, Parth Publishers stands tall amidst the competition.
When Manish Agarwal started on his publishing journey in 2008, Parth Publishers had only one title, ‘B. Com’ unsolved papers to their name. But with time Parth grew into a river from a mere stream, and now floods the secondary study material market with affordable quality books that are known to all for their immaculate accuracy. Running from a busy office situated in the bustling Mansarovar area of Jaipur, Parth is a very well known name in the publishing echelon. Almost all the bookshops in Rajasthan have Parth Books, and students mostly refer to Parth Books over any other publications.
Following is the Interview excerpt that Wonderpublish conducted with the ever-busy and super energetic Manish Agarwal:
Q. What kind of books does Parth have in its oeuvre?
A: Parth caters to the need of the students that are pursuing Undergraduate, Postgraduate courses in nine universities, including Rajasthan University. From Solved Papers to Guides to One week Series’, Parth Publishes quality concise content for students, that too at low prices.
Q. How do you keep the balance between quality and the pricing of the books?
A: At Parth Publishers, we keep a close eye on the affordability as well as the quality of the content. We keep the interest of the students above anything else and price our products accordingly. What helps us maintaining this balance between quality and affordability is the ‘High Availability’ of our books. Even in the remotest parts of the state, Parth books are available. This enables us in carrying out our social responsibility towards the future of the country, i.e. students.
Q. How many titles do we have at present?
A: Currently, Parth has a total number of 800 titles in the market. From BBA, BCA, B. Com, Practical Files and Registers to BSc, BEd, BA, Guess Papers and Practical books, we are covering almost all the university subjects. Also, we have recently started publishing solved papers for the CBSE 10th and 12th standards in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology.
Q. And how many new titles come up each year?
A: As it is the secondary book market, almost all our books are reprinted with updated information. But still, when new courses are conceptualized in the universities, and new exams are announced by the government, we get our writers working, and come up with an average 100 new titles with the relevant study material.
Q. Speaking of the writers, how do you coordinate with writers?
A: Though there is a dearth of qualified writers in this field of work, I have a skilled staff of 40 writers who work relentlessly on getting the quality content to the students. Out of these, 35 are working on the university books and the other 5, who are recently hired, work on the CBSE books. On top of professional staff, we have a world-class in-house setup, which includes R&D as well.
Q. What are the biggest challenges in this industry?
A: The lack of structure in the industry is a big issue. Without any proper channel to communicate with the government, the problems and the innovations go unheard of. Therefore the need to find what kind of books the students want solely rests with the publisher. Now, a publisher can do only as much as his network allows.
Q. Other than the systemic apathy what other problems you face as a publisher?
A: The appalling skill level is another big issue that plagues this field. Proficiency in the skills as basic as typing in Hindi is a rare find. On top of that, this work requires a lot of discipline which is lacking in today’s masses. I can hire a lot more people, but in this industry, the talent and the perseverance is in short supply.
Q. How does the practice of photocopying affect your business?
A: Our books are so low priced that even the photocopying costs more. And moreover, each year our books get updated so photocopying remains out of the scenario.
Our motto of ‘Sasta aur Badhiya (Affordability and Quality)‘ keeps us unaffected by such ill-practices, and motivated to keep on producing quality content for the students.
