World Hindi Day saw the largest footfall at the World Book Fair 2020. Hindi seemed to be in demand and flowering with all the attention it was getting.
Writers, especially the Hindi ones, found themselves a much bigger and much more relaxed audience. Eager to listen, question, shake hands and click a selfie with the writers, people seemed full of enthusiasm and even spread it to their favourite writers and public personalities. A series of celebrated book launches and panel discussions garnered the most attention.
From schools on screen to nostalgia in hands, New Delhi world book fair makes you go through all the emotions at once. There was a time when children used to read study material, other than the textbooks, consolidated by a handful of publishers. These companies were as common as household brands like Parle-G. Vimal, Sanjiv & MBD to name a few. But with the changing winds of the times, these ancient beasts have also changed their stripes. To come across one of them, in an all-new avatar was like being on a nostalgia trip but on a race car.
Tech is taking the education industry by storm. And also, there is no denying that with each innovative push, we are edging closer to a more sustainable and efficient model of education. There are even techniques being applied to understand and, gauge and change the behaviour of students accordingly. Kids are being fed information based on the information that is fed to deep neural networks. Though, in the initial stages, some advanced techniques are already knocking at the doors of the schools and policymakers alike.
Comics are forever
Speaking of initial stages, the ‘comics corner’ at the world book fair is one such place where you’ll find 30 or 40-year-olds instead of kids, rummaging through heaps of comics. Each of them tighly clutching onto their childhood in the form of comics. Instant friendships being stuck, handshakes turning into hugs and small talks changing into loud guffaws, that’s the typical scene at Raj Comics at any given moment. It’s safe to the heroes of yore are going nowhere. They are living and will continue to live on in the hearts of the millions.
7 days of the book fair are up, but there don’t seem to be any dampening of spirits. The celebration of books is raging on. The last couple of days promise to be a befitting showdown.
Let’s see what happens!
